Legal notice: This page is informational only and not legal advice. Texas laws and eligible conditions can change. Always verify on Texas DPS – Compassionate Use Program, the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas (CURT), and Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 487 linked below. See our Legal Disclaimer & No-Warranty and Terms of Use.

What Texas Allows (High Level)

  • Low-THC medical access. Texas operates a state medical program limited to low-THC cannabis under the Compassionate Use Act.
  • Physician & registry model. Eligible patients receive prescriptions from registered physicians and are recorded in CURT; dispensing is by licensed organizations.
  • Rules change. Eligibility, prescribing, dispensing, and product requirements are defined by statute and DPS rules—use the official links below to confirm current requirements.

Practical Notes

  • No federal protection. Federal law still prohibits cannabis. Do not carry onto federal property or across state/national borders. See United States (Federal & State Overview).
  • Driving/DUIC. Texas impaired-driving rules apply. Review TxDOT/DMV and local enforcement guidance.
  • Check eligibility & dispensing locations. Use DPS CUP and CURT to confirm participating physicians and licensed dispensing organizations.
